Managua - Cardinal Leopoldo Brenes, Archbishop of Managua and president of the Episcopal Conference of Nicaragua , after Mass last Sunday, 6 January, said that it will be necessary to analyze and implement the necessary changes within the country, according to the observations that will come from the next meeting of the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States .
Next Friday, 11 January, the Permanent Council of OAS will meet in Washington to discuss the Nicaraguan crisis, at the request of the Secretary General of the organization, Luis Almagro: the meeting is motivated by the difficult anti-democratic situation that the country is experiencing, according to what the note sent to Fides from a local source informs.
In previous sessions of the Permanent Council of OAS, the Government of Nicaragua was called to re-establish National Dialogue and to impartially investigate on acts of violence and deaths that occurred during anti-government protests. In the same circumstances, the excessive use of force by the national police, which led to violations of human rights, denounced by the movements and by the Catholic Church was also condemned.
